Welcome to the ‘Ram n Oz’ website!

Firstly, we’re just a regular Aussie family. We're doing whatever it takes to live our dream, and we're happy to bring you along on the journey with us and share the memories… Maybe we can even convince some of you to do the same!
Yep - we do tend to get a lot of questions about how we’re managing to pull this off.

If you’ve found yourself on our site, maybe you came across our social media, or could have even bumped into us on the road somewhere…

However you got here, no worries, we’re stoked to have you!

How does a family leave behind nice, secure, ‘normal’ jobs…

Their home, their white picket fence and their comfy routines…

Well, if you’re at all curious, then we’d love to tell you all about that as well!

We even might be able to help you do it yourself!

So, whoever you are and however you’ve ended up on our little family website…
Feel free to scroll around, see what you like and never hesitate to shoot us a line, our door is always open.
Much love,

Ed, Leah and the Ram ‘n’ Oz boys

Our Family

"We are the Smiths"
Ed, Leah, and if you scroll down just a little, you’ll see our 3 little boys - Harvey, Archer and Campbell. And yep, you've probably noticed they are very close in age (18 months and 16 months).

In-between building Lego masterpieces, picking up ‘Nerf’ bullets and rendering first aid - We’re planning the adventure of a lifetime!
With just the 5 of us, our Ram truck and our trusty off-grid caravan, we’ll pack up the house, say goodbye to the suburbs and head off for a road trip around this incredible continent..
To be honest, at this stage we don’t know if we ever plan on settling down again. If we can sustain ourselves whilst we live our dream, why would we come back?
For a place we’ve lived our whole lives, we reckon we’ve barely even scratched the surface.
We’re gonna document the whole thing, so if you're keen you can follow along and experience it with us.

Meet Leah

Leah has been a hairdresser for the last 20 years, 18 of which she’s been running her own business.
Working 6 days a week with back-to-back clients, sometimes running 3 chairs at a time, Leah is a multitasking queen. She can get anyone chatting and holds a great conversation with anybody who walks into her salon.
20 years in any job (especially on your feet all day) can get pretty tiring, no matter how much you love it. Add 3 little boys and one overgrown man-child waiting for you at home, it's time to embark on a new adventure.
She's extremely loyal and trustworthy, and so driven and determined. Easily convinced, persuaded and eager to experience new adventures. Much to Ed's delight, it’s also been pretty easy to get a laugh out of her.
Loves a dance, a drink, a sausage in bread, Tina Arena and Grey's Anatomy.

Meet Ed

Ed has been working in the Construction Industry for 20 odd years. From humble beginnings as an apprentice electrician, through to running his own small business, and then eventually into Construction Project Management for some of Melbourne's most prestigious builders. He is currently studying for his Builders registration in Victoria.
Over the past few years Ed has also been involved in the development of 2 phone applications. This has been a very different experience to the usual, and well outside of his comfort zone! It has been a steep learning curve, but reinforced just what is possible if you are passionate enough about something.
Ed is just desperate to spend more time with his 3 little men, show them the world and teach them all he possibly can. He is absolutely determined to make this happen, and be the best possible role model and dad he can be.
Loves a laugh and an adventure, pork crackle, whiskey, AC/DC and Dwight Schrute.

Meet the Boys

These little legends of ours are Harvey, Archer and Campbell. Yep, these guys are really the motivation behind all of this.
The last 6 years with them have flown. It's scary how quickly life has been and going, and these guys are growing-up so bloody fast. We decided we are not going to waste any more precious time and opportunities with them. A time will come one day and they won’t want to hang out with us anymore, so we're going to enjoy it while they do.
The days are long, but the years are short…if you’ve had kids, I’m sure you’ll get that!
We want to give them a lifetime of amazing, beautiful memories and experiences, and we’re super grateful that now we’ve figured out a way to do it.
We're only here all together for one lifetime so we’ll do whatever we can to make it a bloody good one!

So, that's us!

Like we said, we're just your typical Aussie family, giving it a red hot crack, one day at a time.
We’ve built what we were told is the Aussie dream…
Beautiful home, great jobs, and what we thought was a solid ‘plan’.
The problem is, we’re not too keen on being typical anymore.
Waking up early to go to work, to pay for the car that takes us to our job, so we can come home and spend a few hours in a house that we barely have time to enjoy.
Pay your bills, eat your vegetables, rinse and repeat.
Look, we know that our life is awesome and we’re lucky to have it.
Now, we’re just asking the question…
Is there more than this?
Well, if you follow along with us on our journey, we wanna find out.

Our Story

Late 2022 we were due to commence a monstrous renovation and extension to our ‘dream’ home in Mount Eliza on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria.
It's an amazing area - beautiful parks and tracks, the beach nearby, great sporting clubs, we can even walk the kids to school a few hundred metres away. It's everything we always wanted in a home.
But we've since decided - We're not ready for that kind of emotional and financial commitment. So one day we both said ‘Screw it!’ - And we're putting all those plans on hold and going on the adventure of a lifetime.
There is just too much of this country to see and explore before we're shackled to a routine and this place forever!
We can build and reno this place another time, maybe later in life. Because we don't want to miss these precious years while the kids are still young.

The second we both processed the decision, we felt like we had been freed! New doors suddenly flung themselves open, and we started to see opportunities we’d never seen or thought were possible before.
Are we crazy? Maybe. But it depends on how you look at it.
Let’s take it back quickly…
Since we met 12 years ago, Leah and I have been camping, caravanning and holidaying together as much as we can.
We’ve always felt so comfortable on the road in our mini home with nothing more than just the necessities, and the idea of travelling around Australia with the kids was a discussion that came up regularly.
The problem was, we never saw a way to make it happen. It was a dream, but we couldn’t work out how to make it reality.
How the heck could we afford to do it (not to mention with just 4 weeks of annual leave that our jobs allowed)?
Over and over again, the dream took a back seat while we dealt with our day-to-day life.

When we made the decision to ditch the house plans, we finally took that dream off the shelf, dusted it off and started to do something about it.
And this is where we pick up our story today…

Just a Mum and Dad, going outside of our comfort zone and having a go at something new. We're learning new skills and figuring out how to earn an income by working online from wherever and whenever we want, as a team and in a business that we love.
No bosses, no commuting and no deadlines. Give us an internet connection and a couple hours a day to get it done, and we’re good to go.
Now we can just travel Australia together as a family - with no return date. And finally that dream is becoming a reality.
